        The user icons are supplied by Gravatar - http://en.gravatar.com/ - all you need to do is put your email in there, and if you have a Gravatar Icon it'll appear.

        Sometime in the near future there'll be more profile-type features where you'll be able to change your icon, track your activity, and all that good stuff!
